Gift From Second Look Charities

I am very grateful to Second Look Charities for its gift of $2000 to the Kershaw County School District Nurses to be used to help respond to medical emergencies.  Just another wonderful example of the tremendous community support our district is so blessed to have!

SCSBA To Highlight CHS And LEHS

I am very excited that the student body presidents from Camden High (Austin Haney) and Lugoff-Elgin High (Zane Nayfeh) will be featured in a video about public education being produced by the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA).  They are being featured for their work to raise in excess of $65,000 for the United Way of Kershaw County.  Good stuff!!!

KCSD Board Wins Prestigious Award

I was tremendously pleased yesterday to learn that the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees has won a prestigious award from the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) for its efforts with Legislative advocacy.  Specifically, our Board is being recognized for its efforts in the area of getting employees registered to vote.

This is a very prestigious honor and one the entire community should be proud of.  The Board will formally receive its award at the SCSBA legislative conference on December 6.

Partnering With The Kershaw County Library

I am extremely excited that the School Board has approved an agreement with the Kershaw County Library to utilize a strip of land adjacent to the North Central Middle School parking lot for a branch library.  The Kershaw County Library will place a modular building on the site in such a way to take advantage of the existing lighted parking.  No additional cost to the district to help the Kershaw County Library serve more citizens.

This is a great example of collaboration by two public entities!

Thursday Highlights

I always look forward to the annual Kiwanis Country Breakfast, which helps to support the many youth-related activities of the Kiwanis.  A wonderful community event and some of the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever eaten!

Was also able to attend “Just Kidding Around,” a play sponsored by the Lugoff Optimist Club and starring the fifth grade at Wateree Elementary School.  The play is produced through a partnership with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County.  There’s some real talent in the fifth grade at Wateree!   The Optimist Club is also a tremendous supporter of the youth in our community.  The Club does a play with the fifth grade a Wateree every year to raise money for programs for young people in Kershaw County.

We are sincerely indebted to these two fine organizations!
