Proud of Stover and LEMS!!!

I’m really proud of Stover Middle and Lugoff-Elgin Middle for holding two blood drives and raising funds for Relay for Life.  Both schools did a great job and had a lot of fun!  The way in which all of our schools reach out into the community is something that makes Kershaw County such a special place!

WLTX Honors Jennifer Wright

Congratulations to Camden Elementary kindergarten teacher Jennifer Wright, who was honored yesterday by WLTX with a “Golden Apple” award.  Ms. Wright has touched the lives of hundreds of children during her exemplary career as a teacher.  A richly deserved honor!!  Thanks to WLTX anchor Darci Strickland for coming to Camden Elementary to present Ms. Wright with the award.

Start Of The Week…

A great start to the week…

I enjoyed sitting in on a little bit of the middle school choral workshop that was held at the Fine Arts Center.  The kids were really engaged.  Looking forward to seeing them perform!

I was pleased to be asked to speak for a few moments to the ADK Education Sorority.  This group represents what is outstanding about the past, present, and future of our district.  These educators do great work in our schools!

Got to see some of the volleyball playoff match between North Central and Indian Land.  The Knights prevailed!  Camden and Lugoff-Elgin begin their playoff journey this evening.  Playoff volleyball is tremendously exciting!

Peanut Butter Collection At ATEC

It’s an annual tradition at ATEC for students to collect jars of peanut butter for the Christian Community Ministries food pantry.  Last year, over 900 jars were collected.  The students have set a goal of 1,000 for this year.  I hope the community will support this effort.  Donations can be left at the District Office and we’ll make sure they get to ATEC.

Column On “Green” Schools

Interesting column about “green” schools (like our Jackson School) in Sunday’s State newspaper… Any new elementary schools that we build in the future would be similar to Jackson.

Bulldog Spirit

I was over at Camden High School at the end of the day..On football game days, the school fight song is played after end-of-the day announcements.  Today, just after the song finished and the bell rang, registrar Vaughan Dew started leading cheers in the hall.  Got to love Bulldog spirit!!!

More Phase II Meetings

Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting last night at Stover concerning Phase II of the Facilities Equalization Program.  I’m looking forward to next week’s meeting at Camden High School on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.  I’m also looking forward to presenting to the Camden Rotary Club next Thursday.

Marching Pride And The CLC

Congratulations to the “Marching Pride” of Lugoff-Elgin High School for qualifying for the 4A state championship this coming Saturday at Spring Valley.  The band has obviously come a very long way since the night I was watching them practice in early August.  I know they’ll do great!

I am also extremely pleased and proud of the students at the Continuous Learning Center for the work they have done to beautify their building.  Looks fantastic!

Wednesday Stuff…

I’m glad I was able to get by the see the Junior Leadership class working on its Youth Court session this morning.  They  were very into the whole thing.

I was at Lugoff-Elgin Middle in the early afternoon to participate in the blood drive.  Afterwards, I stopped by Mr. Chris Meserve’s band class, I guess it was sixth grade, where the students were learning to make sounds with their clarinet mouthpieces.  Definitely harder than it looks….

Reading At Doby’s Mill

Reading to fourth graders at Doby’s Mill yesterday morning was a great way to start my week!  The students in Amanda Cook’s and Cathy Peake’s classes were a lot of fun!  I’m always amazed at how much more kids know than people in my generation knew at the same age.  Spending time with these kids energized me for the week!
