Sales Tax Exemptions

I’ve written and spoken a lot over the past several years about the need to fix the state’s overall tax structure, especially because of its impact in K-12 funding.  There was some pretty interesting information in The State newspaper over the weekend about the hodgepodge of sales tax exemptions.  See the link below.

Still In The Hunt…

The Camden and North Central volleyball teams continue in the playoffs this week.  The Lady Knights will face Fox Creek tomorrow night at home, while the Lady Bulldogs will be on the road against Chapin.  The Camden girls tennis team also continue in the playoff run.  The team will face either Chapin or Darlington on Tuesday at home.  Good to see all these teams still in the hunt…

While I grabbed some lunch at Lugoff-Elgin High School today, I enjoyed sampling a low-fat, low-calorie apple waffle prepared by LEHS student Trent Mobley as part of his senior project.  They were so good that syrup would have been superfluous!  Also had my blood pressure taken by student David Osteen, who was doing health screenings for his senior project.

I was pleased to learn this afternoon that ATEC students had collected a record number of jars of peanut butter, over 1,000, for Camden Christian Ministries.  Super job!!!

Pine Tree Hill Celebration And Lady Bulldog Tennis

It was a real pleasure for me to take part in the celebration at Pine Tree Hill Elementary School yesterday in recognition of the school’s designation as a “Distinguished Title I School.” I even learned to do the “Cupid Slide,” although I couldn’t do it as well as Dr. Shannon.  A great day for the staff, students, and community of Pine Tree Hill!!

Also got to see part of the Camden High girls tennis match against Dreher. The Lady Bulldogs won a close one, and will continue in the playoffs next Tuesday at home. Super job!  I also thought the team’s pink uniforms made quite a fashion statement!

An Excellent Collaboration

I was visiting ATEC yesterday, and got to talking with Collision Technology teacher David Weaver about a 1972 Mercedes his students are restoring.  The learning opportunities of this project are many.  But Mr. Weaver also shared with me that the Graphic Arts students at ATEC, taught by Mr. Walker Canada, would be colloborating with the Collision Technology students to document the progress on the restoration.  I really liked this!  Great idea!  I’m looking forward to seeing both final products!

Was also pleased to see that ATEC students are collecting peanut butter of local food pantries, which is a yearly tradition at the school.  I’m sure the students would be pleased to receive donations from anyone!

Volleyball Teams Advance

All three of our high school volleyball teams have advanced to the second round of the playoffs….North Central will play its second round match tonight (Wednesday) and Camden and Lugoff-Elgin will play tomorrow night (Thursday).  Got to see some of the Lugoff-Elgin versus Gaffney match last evening, the the Lady Demons looked very good!!!  Good luck to all our teams!!!
