Stuff To Be Pleased About!!!

I was tremendously proud to learn that the students in the FOR Club at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School had collected almost 1,800 pounds of food for the Harvest Hope Food Bank.  Many thanks to Hope Deese and David Roberts from the Alpha Center for helping to coordinate this effort.

Thanks also to Paula Costello, who works with the “Safe Schools/Healthy Students” grant, for her efforts to start at JRT (“Job Readiness for Teens”) program at the Continuous Learning Center.  The students at the CLC will greatly benefit from this program!

Congratulations to the Stover Chorus and Director Brian Heyward for an excellent performance on WLTX this past evening!

Visiting ATEC

I happened to go by the Cosmetology Lab at ATEC yesterday and the students were getting to work on real people versus wigs…It was fun to watch.  The students were obviously very excited.

I also visited the Collision Technology Lab, and got to see what the students were doing to restore a classic 1975 BMW.  I always enjoy the “real world” projects done in this class.

Tuesday Highlights

I enjoyed spending a few minutes Tuesday morning with Ms. Selena Jones’ reading group at Midway Elementary School.  While eating breakfas, the students were hard at work on a novel about a owl.  They did a great job of summarizing the story plot for me!

I was also pleased to learn that Katie Tiller and Madison Hudson from Camden High School had been named to the All-Region Tennis Team.  Congratulations!

Finished my day watching a little bit of girl’s basketball…Stover versus Camden and LEHS versus A.C. Flora.  Hard to believe that it’s basketball season already!

Starting The Week At Pine Tree Hill

My next stop on the “Let Dr. Morgan Do Your Job” tour was this morning at Pine Tree Hill Elementary School.  I spent about ninety minutes with Ms. Joanna Daugenti’s preschool class.  They worked on a number of areas, but I especially enjoyed seeing the children work with letters and sounds with the Smart Board.  I remember seeing this group early in the school year, and the students have made exceptional progress!  I also had a good time helping to supervise their breakfast.  Ms. Daugenti and her assistants Ada Blackmon and Erica Johnson work very well together!

I also worked in the cafeteria with preparation and serving of lunch.  By the end of the morning, I got really good at putting together nacho trays.  (I learned that each tray is to have 10 tortilla chips…I never knew that before.)  Manager Becky Stokes and her staff are truly a well-oiled machine!

I always value the opportunity to spend time at Pine Tree Hill.  There is a very obvious instructional focus and extremely high academic and behavioral expectations for the students.  A very energizing start to my week!

A Big Thanks!!

A very big thanks to Bill Oden, Kerry Morgan, Greta McAvoy and Billy Smith for getting everything back up and running after the power at the District Office was taken down for a good part of the day this past Wednesday so that the City of Camden could replace a transformer.  We’re good to go!

Thanksgiving Program In Ms. Mills’ Class

It really put me in the mood for Thanksgiving when I attended the Thanksgiving program presented by Ms. Judi Mills’ class at Doby’s Mill Elementary.  The kids did an excellent job!  I particularly enjoyed the students talking about what they are thankful for.  A nice start to my day!
