As part of a Superintendent’s Symposium I attended yesterday and today, I got to tour the Michelin manufacturing facility over in Lexington County. It was fascinating! What really struck me, however, is the number of outstanding and well-paying (with benefits) employment opportunities there are at Michelin that require a two-year technical degree. The two-year scholarship program available to our graduates through Central Carolina can open doors to jobs like this for our young people. Another part of the visit that struck me was how important “soft skills” such as punctuality, teamwork, and positive attitudes are in a 21st century workplace. Finally, it occurred to me how tremendous it would be to have a facility like Michelin here in our community!
