It was a privilege and a pleasure for me to attend a tribute held today in the memory of the late Sibby Upton Wood. For many years, Ms. Wood has been a tremendously generous supporter of the arts in both our schools and in the greater community. I was honored to be able to present a token of the District’s esteem and gratitude to members of Ms. Wood’s family who were in attendance. The program, which included two groups supported by Ms. Wood, was very, very special. We were treated to performance by the Kershaw County Strings program under the director of Ms. Mary Ford. These kids were terrific! The Upton Trio presented a beautiful and unique musical presentation about the Amazon Rainforest called “The Breath of Life,” which included pictures and original music. This presentation has been performed in our schools over the past year. This was all a wonderful tribute to a lady who just rolled her sleeves up and got things done!
