ATEC Students Victorious!!

I was terrific to hear last week that three students in Jeff Cooper’s Emergency Services class at ATEC had won awards at the SC Fire Convention Competition in Myrtle Beach. Bayleigh Eubanks and Randy Rogers of Camden High won first place in the girls and boys gear donning competition and Amber Terry of Lugoff-Elgin High took second in the same competition. Way to go!!!

Hootie And The Blowfish Fund Teen Center Grant

I am so excited about the grant being funded by the Hootie and the Blowfish Foundation that will enable the young people at the Jackson Teen Center to develop, write, produce, and market a CD that will include both covers and original material.  This grant was written by a partnership that included the Alpha Center and the Boys and Girls Club.  I can’t wait to see what the kids produce.  I know it’s going to be great!

I was pleased to read in the State newspaper this morning that Cole Irick of Camden High in baseball and Erin Blizzard of Lugoff-Elgin High in softball had been named to their respective All-State teams.  Thanks to WPUB sports guy Tyler Cupp for passing on that Tyler Bowers of North Central High School had also earned All-State honors in baseball.  Congratulations!!

Summer Feeding Program

I am extremely pleased and excited that the District will again partner with the United Way this summer to provide 20+ summer feeding sites throughout Kershaw County.  This service will make a huge difference for many children over the next two months.  I feel very blessed to be able to work in a community where these kinds of partnerships are the norm.

Open Gyms

I am extremely pleased that the School District will partner with the Recreation Department this summer to open up high school gyms for basketball.  The open gyms will begin next week on the following schedule:

– Mondays from 6-8 p.m. at North Central High

– Tuesdays from 6-8 at Lugoff-Elgin High

– Thursdays from 6-8 at Camden High

Thanks to Joe Eason and the folks at the Recreation Department for working with us on this!
