2015 Special Olympics

Special Olympics in Kershaw County is always one of my favorite events of the year….Its meaning this year was certainly even greater because the 2015 Special Olympics was dedicated to the memory of Debi Davis, who passed away in January after dedicating her career to Special Needs students.

After several days of forecasts of rainy weather, the day ended up being about perfect.  What I love about Special Olympics in Kershaw County, and what makes it so very unique, is how the entire community gets involved.  From the committee that plans all year to the countless volunteers and organizations and students who help at the event to the schools that do such wonderful send-offs for the athletes as they leave for the event, this is truly a community event and a community treasure.

Many  thanks to the Special Olympics Committee for its work, to Camden Military for hosting the event, and to the many, many other folks who do all the things necessary that make an event like this possible.

The smiles and joy of the athletes make it all worth it!
