Camden Elementary School Honored

Camden Elementary School got an early Christmas present with the news that it has been named a 2011 Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School for outstanding achievement in comprehensive educational excellence for students.

“This is an award that the Camden Elementary family has been working very hard to achieve,” said Kershaw County School District (KCSD) Superintendent Frank Morgan. “I’m very pleased to see their efforts recognized at the national level.”

According to Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence President/CEO Bart Teal, schools are selected based on results from a Blueprint for Success assessment process designed to identify and recognize comprehensive achievement in nine areas of performance.

Camden Elementary will be officially recognized for the honor in an awards ceremony to be held Dec. 7.

“This recognition is a great reflection on the outstanding faculty, staff, students, parents and community of Camden Elementary School,” said Camden Elementary School Principal Ed Yount. “I am very excited and proud of the hard work and dedication displayed by our school family to achieve such a high honor.”

Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools have to demonstrate outstanding excellence in the following categories: student focus and support; school organization and culture; challenging standards and curriculum; active teaching and learning; technology integration; professional community; leadership and educational vitality; school, family and community partnerships and indicators of success.

This is the ninth year Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc., has recognized schools nationwide as Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Schools. Based in Chapin, it is not affiliated with any other award program. All K-12 public, private, charter, parochial, Department of Defense and Bureau of Indian Affairs schools are eligible to participate.

This is the fourth KCSD school to earn a Blue Ribbon Lighthouse Award. ATEC was honored in 2006, Doby’s Mill Elementary in 2007 and Lugoff Elementary in 2008. Camden Elementary received a Blue Ribbon Points of Light Award in 2009.
