Lunch at Camden First

I got to visit the summer program at Camden First United Methodist Church that is being funded by the “Safe Schools/Healthy Students” grant today for lunch and to watch the campers have some water fun on a “slip and slide.”  Camden Mayor Jeffrey Graham, Camden City Manager Kevin Bronson, Geogre Jackson from DJJ,  Kershaw County Deputy Pat Kelly, Camden Detective “Rock” Coleman, Mike McClendon from The Black News, and Paul Napper from the Alpha Center joined us.  The kids are obviously having a great experience in the program.  The program is an excellent blend of academics, character building activities, and just plain fun.  Kudos to everyone involved!

Impressive Art!

Had a chance yesterday evening to stop by and see the exhibit of visual art done by students through the “Arts Arising” summer program at the Fine Arts Center.  There was an impressive collection of masks, necklaces, pastels, still lifes, and other prints.  Tremendously creative and well-done work!  What I think I enjoy most about this kind of event is seeing the young artists themselves look at their work in an exhibition setting.     Great job!
