Seven years ago, retired counselor Clifton H. Anderson was asked to mentor a group of students who were then fifth graders at Bethune Elementary School. Over the past seven years, Mr. Anderson has stayed in touch with this group as the students have progressed through North Central Middle and North Central High School. These students are now seniors, and every one of them is on track to graduate this spring. I got to sit in this morning as Mr. Anderson and School Board member Carol Thompson visited with the students and talked with them about the importance of having goals and focusing on achieving them. I also enjoyed seeing the pictures of how the students in the group had changed every year since the fifth grade. Mr. Anderson has truly been an inspiration to these students, and a strong example of the positive impact of mentoring.
