Has anyone considered each student paying some sort of school fee for attendiing the school I realize we pay taxes for these areas but I believe school districts in Richland county still charge school fees for those that can finacially afford to do so. Extracurrular activies should also have a fee to those that can afford to pay, We can also form some sort of scholarship for those students that want to play sports and cannot afford to play. As a community we need to find ways to noy only serve our students by maintaining their sports activities but more important maintaining the people behind the scenes such as the teachers and their assistance. I am sure if we all work together we can find some way to help our children and community through these hard times.
Ms. Nichols – Thanks for your suggestion. I do know that Richland 2 and a number of other districts charge a fee. However, several years ago, the legislators from Kershaw County at the General Assembly passed what is called local legislation prohibiting Kershaw County from charging blanket fees. Essentially, for Kershaw County, such fees are against the law in Kershaw County. I do plan to discuss changing this with our legislative delegation. Thanks again for your comments! FM
Stover Middle charged a $15 fee at regisration this summer. My child does NO extra activities, so this was just a blanket fee. Did the school break the law?
Curious – The law addresses blanket district-wide fees, but I’ll check. FM
Just wondering if you have found out about the fees at Stover. Are they legal or not?
Based on my understanding of the law, they are. Thanks! FM
